Entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 7, 2018, John W. Pinto Sr, widower of Marie Patton Pinto . The relatives and friends of John W. Pinto, Sr. are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening between 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM, with a 5:00 PM Rosary, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
John was born on December 18th, 1927 on the second floor of the family home at 66 Anson Street in Charleston. John, or “Buddy” to his friends, “Uncle Buddy” to his nieces and nephews and “Poppa” to his many grandchildren, was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Marie Patton Pinto and their daughter Cynthia Anne Pinto. John graduated from Bishop England High School in Charleston and then entered the US Army during WWII, spending the last portion of his enlistment stationed in Occupied Japan. After military service, John worked for the Charleston Naval Shipyards for more than 30 years and, after retiring, worked an additional 15 years for Detyen’s Shipyards on the Wando River. John loved to tinker and “fix” things and has been sought out by friends and family for more than half a century to repair cars, houses, appliances and more.
John is survived by five of his children, Cathy Doughty (Donald), John W. Pinto, Jr. (Deborah), Andrew A. (Tony) Pinto (Linda), G. Joseph Pinto (Lynn), Robert M. Pinto (Anne) and by Andrew J Britz (Lynn) and Robert R Butler (Rena) as well as 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
