John Joseph Madden

John Joseph Madden, Jr, 82, died peacefully on February 29, 2024, in Charleston, SC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM, Monday, March 11, 2024, at Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Road. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Sunday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. A reception in the Nativity Parish Hall will follow the burial.

John was born September 10, 1941, in Charleston, SC. He was the son of John Joseph Madden, Sr. and Herta Marle Madden. He grew up in Charleston and was a 1959 graduate of Bishop England High School. John entered the US Army and served four years. He then worked at CNSY and the Navalex Charleston. John graduated from Limestone. He retired from SPAWAR and later worked for BAE Systems. He was a devoted family man and was more than willing to help anyone in need. John was a long-time member of Nativity Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of James Island, Council 6250. He was also a proud member of the American Legion.

John was predeceased by his sister, Martha Madden and brother-in-law, James Caraviello.

John leaves behind his beautiful wife of 57 years, Betty Kuykendall Madden; two sons, Johnny Madden and Paul Madden (Kelly); five grandchildren; two sisters; eight nephews; one niece; five great-nieces; one great-nephew and two sisters-in-law.
