John Philip Kennedy

Charleston, SC - John P. Kennedy, Sr., 88, a retired Firefighter with the City of Charleston Fire Department and husband of Angela C. Kennedy, died Monday, February 16, 2015. The relatives and friends of Mr. & Mrs. John P. Kennedy, Sr. are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The family will receive friends Friday between 5:00 & 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered at www.JamesAMcAlister.com. A native of Charleston, John was a son of the late James Francis and Thomasine C. Kennerty Kennedy. He was educated in Charleston schools and later served on a Red Cross hospital ship. He became a Merchant Marine in World War II. A carrier firefighter, Mr. Kennedy later joined the Charleston Fire Department and received three commendations for heroism. John was an avid gardener, birdwatcher and a skilled carpenter. He will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved him. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children: Kathy, John Phillip, Jr., Timothy and Angela; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and his brother, John Joseph Kennedy.
