John Frederick Dorr 79 died March 27, 2012 after a sudden and brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Betty Martin Dorr for 33 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Olive Palardy Dorr, and his father Robert E. Dorr. John was born December 14, 1932 in Orange, NJ. He was a 1951 graduate of Carteret High School in West Orange, NJ. He served in the US Army and then graduated from Upsala College in NJ with a BBA in 1957. He worked for Becton Dickinson for 30 plus years and held various executive level positions in NJ, Maryland, California and Puerto Rico and took early retirement in 1988. John was very civic minded and involved in many of the communities he lived in. When his children were younger he was the President of the Board of Education in Montville Township in Morris County, NJ and President of the Montville Bronco's Athletic Association. For fifteen years he served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Gift Plantation Homeowners' Association on John's Island, SC. He also volunteered at Middleton Place in the carpenter shop for 14 years. John had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest. He had many hobbies and enjoyed working with stain glass and wood carving. He belonged to the National Bonsai Society, the Coastal Carolina Bonsai Society, and the Coastal Carolina Orchid Society. He loved sailing and boating and had a great appreciation for wildlife and nature. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in the yard and spending time with his family, friends and dogs. He is survived by his wife Betty L. Dorr of John's Island, SC, his daughter, Tracy Barnard of Goose Creek, SC, 3 sons, John F. Dorr Jr. of Vancouver, WA, Robert Dorr of Camarillo, CA, William Dorr and his wife Peggy of Mt. Airy, Md; 6 grandchildren, Brian Hess and his wife Mary, Sarah Dorr, Carly Dorr, Tyler Dorr, John R. Dorr, Cameron Dorr, a great grand child, Brian John Hess, 2 siblings, Nancy Underwood and husband Chuck of San Diego, Ca and Ellen Rosetti of Raliegh NC.
