Joann "Jodie" Parker

March 6, 1934 — May 14, 2023

Mrs. JoAnn S. 'Jodie' Parker, 89, widow of Charles M. Parker, Sr., entered into her Heavenly Father's home on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:00 PM Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston. The Rite of Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery will be private. The family will receive friends between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM Friday, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.

Jodie was born March 6, 1934, in Milwaukee, WI, a daughter of the late Raeh Radtke and Arthur J. Schroeder. She was educated at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School and Riverside High School, both in Milwaukee. While at St. Peter and Paul, Jodie was President of the Sodality. She graduated high school in 1952, the same year she met her future husband, Charles M. 'Chuck' Parker, Sr. They were married on September 4, 1954 at St. Robert's Catholic Church in Shorewood, WI. They moved to Charleston in 1956, where they made their permanent home until Chuck's passing in 2016.

Jodie was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for over 40 years. She lived to serve the Lord and provide for her family. She worked 15 years for the Diocese of Charleston, where she served as Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools. After retirement from the Diocese, she was hired by the late Rev. Joseph F. Hanley to work in the office at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, a position she held for 17 years. She was publicity chairman for the Bishop England Band Boosters. She and Chuck were devoted to and fully involved in their children's school and after school activities. Jodie enjoyed yard work, time in her pool, walking, reading, and riding her tricycle in the neighborhood. The greatest joy in Jodie's life was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Jodie during her lifetime, loved and adored her.

Jodie was preceded in death by the love of her life, Charles M. 'Chuck' Parker ('My Darling'), her son Jeffrey Parker; her Great-grandchild Nathan O'Neil Pacetti; her two brothers: Arthur Schroeder, Neil Schroeder; and two sisters: Muriel Pirelli and Raeh Marie Stripling.

She is survived by two children: Charles M. Parker II, and Raeh Ann Parker; five Grandchildren: Chuck III, Bonnie, Melissa, Emily, and Jesse; four Great-grandchildren: Collin, Bradley, Cayden, and McKenzie; three Sisters-in-law: Mickey Schroeder, Carol DelConte, and Mary Jane Castresse; (brother, E. Arthur Pirelli, Esq.), and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, 7 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston, SC 29407, or St. John's Catholic School, 3921 St. John's Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.

May the Lord comfort her, wrap her in His arms and continue to watch over and guide us all.

Arrangements by James A. McAlister, (843) 766-1365.
