Joan M. Quirk

June 9, 1937 — February 25, 2024

Joan Marie Yaede Quirk, 86, died Sunday February 25, 2024.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Joanne Marie Quirk; three sons, Daniel Quirk, Jr. (Lisa), Richard G. Quirk and Christopher Quirk; two siblings, George William Yaede (Gloria) and Barbara White (Gary); five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and family.

Joan is predeceased by her husband, Daniel (Danny) Quirk, Sr.; daughter, Kathryn J.  Quirk Smith; parents, George J. Yaede, Jr. and Marie Boyd Yaede.

Joan was born in Bronx, New York then moved with her family to Long Island when most New Yorkers wanted to have a house with a yard. The family eventually ended up in Massapequa, New York where she met the love of her life Danny. Eventually they moved to Lindenhurst, New York where they raised their family. Joan was very active in the activities the children were involved with. Cub Scout Den Mother, Little League Ladies Auxiliary President were just a couple of things she did.

When Joan and Danny found it time to retire, they moved to Charleston, South Carolina. It was an easy choice to make since their first grandchild lived here. Joan loved children and right up to the end would perk up when a child entered the room. Joan loved to sing and dance, a gift her father passed down to her. Joan was also pretty good with crafts, a gift her mom passed on to her. In her retirement, she and Danny made many crafty items for around the home and as gifts for family and friends.

We are thankful for having Joan in our life, for all she did, for the memories and for the full life she was able to enjoy. We are truly blessed and will treasure her always.

Burial will be private. A celebration of Life is planned for later in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Roper St. Francis Foundation, Hospice/ Palliative Care, 100 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29403 and/or The Citadel Foundation, Class of 1980 Scholarship Fund, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409.
