Entered into Life Eternal on January 19, 2016, Joan Bissell Lucas, widow of James Doar Lucas, of Charleston. The relatives and friends of Joan B. Lucas are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 21, 2016, at the Graveside, Magnolia Cemetery. She was born on September 15, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA. a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins Bissell. Joan graduated from Ashley Hall and was a member of the DAR, the Jr. League of Charleston and the French Huguenot Church. She was one of the first owners of a unique merchandising concept, The Bedroom, in the city's upscale revitalization of the City Market downtown and later co-owned The Stoll's Alley Shop. She is survived by her son, James Doar Lucas, Jr. and his wife Rue, two daughters: Joan Lucas and Elizabeth Lucas Rawl, six grandchildren: James and Cordes Lucas, Stephanie and Lucas Harth and Adeline and Eliza Rawl.She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins Bissell and her sister, Nancy Bissell Ravenel.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
