Joan Roseann Finnerty

Joan Roseann Beresford Finnerty,85, of Charleston, widow of Edward Joseph Finnerty entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY. on September 6, 1926, a daughter of the late Rose Helen McGurgan Beresford and Henry Aloysius Beresford. She was a graduate of Notre Dame College of Staten Island and worked for AT&T in N.Y. Joan moved to Charleston in 1958 and helped manage the family business, Finnerty Realty. She was a devout Catholic and member of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 50 years. Her hobbies included gardening, cross-stitching, spending time with her family at the beach. Her beautiful blue eyes and disarming smile will be sorely missed. She lived a selfless life of devotion to her family. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Parks (Coleman) of Lexington, S.C. and Jeanne Williams (Hugh) of John's Island, S.C.; her sons, Thomas Finnerty (Karen), and Edward Finnerty Jr. (Jane) of Charleston, S.C. Thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends, she is survived by one brother William Beresford of Mattituck, N.Y. and a close cousin Barbara Pitts of Brick Town, N. J. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Ann Lilienthal. Her children wish to extend special thanks to her caregivers, Becky Conrad, Mary Ann Longfellow and Karen Finnerty. The relatives and friends of Joan R. Finnerty are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, Friday October 21, 2011, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 20,2011 at the James A McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway.
