Mrs. Joan Barrineau Beckman, 80, of North Charleston, the widow of David Edward Beckman, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at her residence. Joan was born in Charleston on May 30, 1930, the daughter of the late Elmore Alonzo and Florence Estelle Daniels Barrineau. She retired from The Gingerbread House as a preschool teacher. Formerly, she was a teacher's assistant at Mary Ford Elementary School and a long time employee of Condon's Department Store. Joan was a member of St. John Catholic Church and a member of the choir. She always said, "God put me here for two reasons, to be David Beckman's wife and to be the mother of my eight children". Joan loved Edisto Beach where she spent many hours collecting sharks' teeth. When not walking the beach, she enjoyed spending her days in her yard tending her flowers. Joan is survived by her eight children: son, David E. Beckman, Jr. and his wife Tina of Summerville, daughter, Anna Maria Lease of North Charleston, daughter, Lisa B. McLeod and her husband Donnie of North Charleston, son, Brett W. Beckman and his fiance Sherry Blackmon of North Charleston, son, Keith A. Beckman and his wife Patricia of Summerville, daughter, Gina B. Nichols and her husband Donald of Summerville, son, Michael L. Beckman and his wife Tina of Perry, GA, son, Neal P. Beckman and his wife Cynthia of James Island. She is survived by twenty five grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She leaves behind her brother, Barry Barrineau of Mt. Pleasant, her sister, Elizabeth Buchanan of Wando, and brother, Jerry Barrineau of Charleston. She is also survived by her faithful feline companions, Duchess, Buff and Kiddo. The family would also like to extend special recognition to two special women, Ali Mappus and Beth Morris who Joan loved as daughters. The relatives and friends of Joan Barrineau Beckman are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Catholic Church at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 29, 2011. The Rite of Committal will be held in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM with the Rosary conducted at 6:00 PM at the James A.
