Jessie "Jerry" Thomas Liddy entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 23, 2014. The relatives and friends of Jessie Thomas Liddy are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Jerry was born in Dogwood, Alabama on December 21, 1914, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Milton Thomas of Montevallo, Alabama. She was predeceased by her husband Commander James J. Liddy, USN (Ret) of Charleston. Jerry attended the University of Alabama and was ranked fourth in her class. She was quick to say "Roll Tide". In 1934 Jerry moved to Charleston where she met her husband, Jim. They traveled abroad with Jim's job in Civil Service following his naval service, but came back home to live out their senior years. Jerry was very active in civic services and was President of the Charleston Citizens for Clean Air. In addition, she was active in the League of Women Voters and Democratic Women. She won several awards for environmental protection. In 1972 she was a candidate in the Democratic Primary for the South Carolina House of Representatives. Jerry is survived by her niece, Katherine "Kay" Liddy Baldwin and her husband, Claude, along with their five sons. Jerry and Jim earned their place in heaven by treating the Baldwin Boys to annual trips to Disney World. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund, 5 Teresa Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
