Surrounded by the love of her family, Jeanne Lafitte Ray Kerr entered into eternal life Tuesday evening, May 11, 2010, She was born April 9, 1929 in Charleston, the daughter of Hugh Alfred Ray and Elisa Jacques Ray. She attended Ashley Hall School, graduating in 1948, and she attended the University of South Carolina. She married Basil Joseph Kerr at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ansonborough, on September 23, 1953. They remained devoted to each other and were virtually inseparable for almost 57 years. Jeanne was employed as a teller for the Citizens and Southern National Bank, and later for the South Carolina National Bank. After raising her six children, she became the founder and owner of The Treasure Chest, which was located in the Charleston Market for 27 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Colonists, and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She also had been a member of the choir at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a devoted mother and took an active role in her children's lives. She encouraged each child to develop their own personalities and talents. She was dedicated to her children's educational and musical activities. She spent a great deal of time transporting her children, their cousins and friends to various activities, especially involving the band. She was an active member of the Bishop England Band Boosters, helping with fund raisers, chaperoning, and transporting students to events. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by six children and their spouses: Basil Jr. and his wife Cindy, William, Suzanne and her husband Brian Reed, Brian and his wife, Tammara, David and his wife Dawn, and Christopher and his wife, Anna. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Amanda Kerr, Luke Reed, Alex Kerr, Renee Kerr, Mary Reed, Mark Reed, Brandon Kerr, Ryan Kerr, Emma Kerr, Jonathan Kerr, Molly Kerr, and Kristina Kerr.
