Jean Elizabeth Aldous Thomas
July 10, 1930 — January 30, 2018
Jean was an honor graduate of Chicora High School and a graduate of her beloved College of Charleston, where she was a member of Alpha Kappa Gamma. She served as president of the Riverland Terrace Garden Club, The James Island Exchange Auxiliary Club and the Alpha Delta Kappa teachers fraternity. She was thrice president of the Ladies Nine Hole Golf Association at the Country Club of Charleston, twice president of the Les Dames at the Country Club of Charleston, served on the Alumni Board of the College of Charleston and was on the board of Catholic Charities.
Jean was beautiful inside and out. She was a former Miss Charleston who always searched for the good in everyone. The highlight of her life were her two grandsons-she loved watching them grow into the wonderful young men they are today. Jean had a strong faith and was blessed with a wonderful life full of love and friendships.
She is survived by her two children, John Bowden Thomas, Jr. and Marion Thomas Gilchrist (Joe); her two grandsons, John Thomas Gilchrist and Joseph Reid Gilchrist and two step-granddaughters, Cowles Gilchrist Whitley (Josh) and Ellen Moncure Gilchrist, as well as many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
