Jean W. Strickland

Jean W. Strickland, 88, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 26, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston. The family will receive friends between 5:00 & 7:00 PM Tuesday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Private Interment will take place at a later date.

Jean was born December 17, 1933 in Wilmington, NC, daughter to the late Alice L. Rose and Benjamin Landis Wagamon. Upon graduation from high school, she moved to California and attended college in Los Angeles. She returned to North Carolina and subsequently married and relocated to Charleston, where she attended the Citadel. Her career with the State of South Carolina spanned 28 1/2 years, retiring in 1997.

Jean was a member of BPO Does, Past President of American Business Women's Association, and Past President of Parents without Partners. She received a Papal Blessing in 2014 on her 80th birthday.

Jean is survived by three children: Elizabeth S. O'Brien (Butch), Michael F. Skipper (Anna), and Stacia Silvers; 5 Grandchildren: J. Thomas Cox (Catherine), Anje E. Cox (Joey Reasoner), Landis B. Pino (Jason), Sara S. Burks (Drew), and Emily R. Skipper; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Smith, Jr. and her son William Robert Strickland, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
