Jane McLachlen Baker, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Charles Joseph Baker, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 27, 2017. The relatives and friends of Jane McL. Baker are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 1, 2017, in St. Michael’s Church. Burial, at Gregorie-Venning Cemetery, will be private. The family will receive friends at the Carolina Yacht Club, 50 East Bay Street on Monday, July 31, 2017, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Jane was born June 27, 1930, in Los Angeles, California, a daughter of the late Robert Reyburn McLachlen and Ruth Gordon McLachlen. She attended San Jacinto High School in Houston, Texas and the University of Texas, Austin. After meeting on a blind date, introduced by mutual friends, Charlie proposed and Jane moved from her beloved Texas to Charleston where she happily spent the next 62 years. Jane worked as a legal secretary and receptionist for Brockinton & Brockinton for almost 30 years. She was a devoted member of St. Michael’s Church serving on the Altar Guild for many years, a member of the Ivy Garden Club and a member of the Charleston Junior League. Jane is survived by her son, Charles Joseph Baker III (Betsy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her daughter, Mary Gordon Baker Holland (Jim) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her daughter, Jane Woodward Baker (Weston) of Wadmalaw Island, SC,her grandchildren: Emma, Charlie, and Camilla Baker and Alexandra Holland as well as several nieces and nephews.
