Mr. James Ebbie Vick, 77, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at a local hospital. James was the widower of Sybil Ann Poplin Vick who predeceased him on February 9, 2011. They were married for fifty-six years. He was born in Morven, NC on August 30, 1933, the son of the late Fannie Louise Grooms Vick and Charles Steadman Vick. He grew up in Wadesboro, NC where he graduated from Wadesboro High School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Navy that same year. Jimmy, as he was affectionately known to friends and family, decided to make the Navy a career and spent the next thirty years serving his country at duty stations around the world. After retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1982, he embarked on yet a second career with the Federal Government that has spanned an additional twenty-eight years at the U.S. Naval Weapons Station/Joint Base Charleston. He worked there up until his death. Jimmy was a member of the both the Masons and Shriners. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will always be remembered as a kind, compassionate and considerate man who always had the time to help others. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Jimmy is survived by two sons, James Michael Vick and his wife Maureen of Reevesville, SC and Jeffrey Alan Vick and his wife Heather of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren, Kristin Michelle Starns and her husband Ashton, of St. George, SC, Braden James Vick of Charleston, SC and Claire Elizabeth Vick of Charleston, SC, and two great-grandchildren, Kylie Elizabeth Starns and Chloe Hayden Starns, both of St. George, SC. The relatives and friends of James E. Vick are invited to attend his Graveside Service with Military Honors at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 15, 2011, at Live Oak Memorial Gardens with Rev. Skip Owens officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM this Thursday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home,1620 Savannah Hwy. 766-1365.
