James Robert Steffel, Sr.

James Robert "Jim" Steffel, Sr. 74, of James Island, the husband of Patricia "Peanut" Cluka Steffel, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 30, 2011. Jim was born in Defiance, OH on September 26, 1936, the son of the late Orville A. and Goldie Matthews Steffel. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Jim was a Machinist at Westvaco for thirteen years. He also worked at G.S. Carter Lumber, Buck Lumber and currently at Southern Lumber and Millwork. Jim was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, was a co-chairperson of the Hall Committee and a member of the Men's Club. He was the head of the Building Committee for the renovation of the Parish Hall and in keeping with his hobby of working with wood he built the Alter, Pulpit, benches for the choir and Alter Servers as well as the Baptismal Font for the church. In what little spare time he had left for himself, Jim enjoyed cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty four years, Patricia "Peanut" C. Steffel of James Island; daughter-in-law, Annick "Nicky" Steffel of James Island; granddaughter, Patricia Steffel of James Island; grandson, James Steffel III of James Island; grandson, Christopher Steffel of James Island; great granddaughter, Nadia Steffel of James Island; brother-in-law, Harold Cluka of James Island; brother-in-law, Edward Cluka of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Hope Arch of Jacksonville, FL and a half brother, Johnny Arch and his wife Peggy of Jacksonville, FL. The relatives and friends of James R. Steffel, Sr. are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Folly Beach, SC. The Rite of Committal will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Charleston. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish Hall Maintenance Fund, PO Box 1257 Folly Beach, SC 29439. Arrangements are by the JAMES A.
