Mr. James Hampden Small III passed on May 17, 2012. A native of Charleston, he was married to Dolly Barnwell Myers. The Family will be receiving friends after 4:00pm on Sunday, May 20 at 26 Church Street. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at 4:00pm at Magnolia Cemetery. Born on April 14, 1930, he was the son of Robert Scott Small and Louise Johnson Small. A graduate of Yale University School of Engineering, he found architecture was his passion and continued his education at Georgia Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of both Science and Architecture. Pursuing his passion, he returned to Charleston to join the firm of Simons Lapham and Mitchell, one of South Carolina's oldest architecture firms. He served his community with many years on the boards of the Board of Architectural Review and The Historic Charleston Foundation. He is survived by his widow, and his three children (Emily Small Ramsay, Strachan Thomas Small, and Charlotte Whaley Small) six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his siblings(Oscar Johnson Small and Charlotte Small Bavier).
