James Franklin Norris, Jr.

James Franklin Norris, Jr. (Jim), of Charleston, SC, husband of Mary G. Norris, passed away at home on October 1, 2022, at the age of 87.

The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. James Franklin Norris, Jr., are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Mr. Norris was born in Dillon, SC on January 11, 1935, the son of the late James F. Norris, Sr. and Lorene Hayes Norris.

Mr. Norris was retired as State Circulation Manager of the Post & Courier after 34 years. He was a licensed Baptist minister whose ministry covered most of the lowcountry. At the time of his death, he attended James Island Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Goethe Norris; his son, James F. Norris, III of Estill, SC; his brother, Jerry Norris of Calhoun, GA; his granddaughters, Katherine Norris, Julia Norris, Teylor Norris of Charleston, SC, Elizabeth Norris of Charlotte, NC; his two great-granddaughters, Jaelynn Norris and Jentry Norris of Charleston, SC; his daughter-in-law, Sharon Thompson (Chris) of Goose Creek, SC, his daughter-in-law, Katherine Norris of Charleston, SC and his nephew, Ron Carder of Calhoun, GA.

Mr. Norris was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Norris, his son, Michael Norris and his younger brother, Ronald Norris.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may also be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
