Entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 6, 2014, James Harold McCulloch, 76, husband of Beatrice Burkhardt McCulloch. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. James H. McCulloch are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the James A. McAlister Chapel. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home. 1620 Savannah Hwy. Mr. McCulloch was born in Tishomingo, MS on Monday, October 11, 1937, a son of James Eston and Gertrude Scruggs McCulloch. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Marines Corps and retired as a 1st Sgt. after twenty years. Mr. McCulloch went on to become a Major in the Public Safety Department at MUSC and retired after twenty-three years of faithful service. "My father James was a man who believed in being free. He fought for all of your freedom. He loved hard and fought hard for what he believed in until the end." " My father, pops, as I called him, loved the land he fought for...he was always gardening and tending to the garden mostly for my mother, Beatrice. I believe there was always something about the beauty and freedom of nature he loved." He is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice Burkhardt McCulloch; His Son, James H. McCulloch, Jr.; His Grandson, Cameron T. McCulloch; His Sisters: Virgie Mae M. Kennedy and Audrey Faye Lester (Earl); Three Brothers: Vernon E. McCulloch (Linda), T. Lester McCulloch (Deanna) and David E. McCulloch (Cathy) Memorials may be made to the Veterans Victory Group Memorial Fund 2461 Sidneys Road Walterboro, SC 29488
