James Henry Mccord

March 5, 1943 — December 17, 2024

James Henry McCord passed peacefully Tuesday, December 17, 2024 doing what he loved, watching and waiting for the redfish to show up in the incoming tide. May we all be so lucky when it’s our time to go. Jim was born in Greenwood, SC on March 5, 1943 to Elizabeth and Hugh McCord. He attended Clemson University, graduated from Erskine College, and got his Masters at Webster University. After college, he joined the U.S. Army, attended Officer Candidate School, and married Margaret Jones of Adams Run, SC.

He served 24 years in the Army, flew helicopters with the Air Calvary in Vietnam, and served several posts throughout the US and in Germany. After retiring with the rank of Lt Colonel, Jim and Margaret moved back to Charleston County where they remained active with the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island. Jim served as an elder, was on several committees,
and was very involved with the Edisto Island Food Panty. He spent innumerable hours driving all over Edisto Island delivering food and conversation to families in the community which brought him so much joy. Jim lived a life full of service and gratitude for all the blessings of this life.

Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years Margaret Jones McCord and daughters Holly (Reid) Sisson and Katie (Garrett) Budds, his grandchildren Henry Sisson, Amelia Sisson, Heyward Budds, and Darby Budds, sister Jane (Dave) Kiesler, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by both parents, a brother Dr Hugh C McCord Jr, sisters-in-law Mary Amelia McCord, Eileen Jones Steadman, and brother-in-law James E Steadman.

A Memorial Service for Jim will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island, with The Reverend Ashley R. Sanders officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Edisto Island Food Pantry, which can be sent to the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island, PO Box 86, Edisto Island, SC 29438.

Arrangements by JAMES A. MCALISTER INC. (843) 766-1365.
