James Julian Habercam, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in 2004 of the United States Army Medical Service Corps died at the age of 65 when he lost his battle with cancer on Friday, January 23, 2015 at his Summerville home in South Carolina while his wife, Joanne Hughes Habercam, was by his side. The only child to Dr. Julian Wetmore Habercam, a retired Professor of Oral Medicine who practiced and taught dentistry in Baltimore, Maryland and at the University of South Carolina Dental School, who also served in the United States Navy during World War II, ranked Lieutenant Commander as Chief Dental Officer. James Julian Habercam was also the only child to Alice Marie Habercam, maiden name, Trumpower. She was a retired nurse in anesthetists. She received her nursing's at John Hopkins University. Both Julian and Alice are deceased. James was born July 23, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland. He had two nick names. One being Jim and the other Habbo. James attended Govan's Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland where he graduated grade school. He then went on to attend at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Virginia. James graduated from Calvert Hall College in Baltimore, Maryland receiving his High School Diploma in June 4, 1967. He then received his Bachelor of Science on May 28, 1972 at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, continuing his education at the University of South Carolina where he then received his Master of Public Health on August 15, 1981 in Columbia, South Carolina. James completed graduate studies at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. James was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Baltimore, MD, Trinity United Methodist Church in Charleston, SC and Henderson United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Lieutenant Colonel James J. Habercam also served on the Union College Alumni Association Board and was a voting member of the Board of Trustees. James was a true friend and an amazing husband who was greatly loved and he will be missed very much. There will be a memorial service in Baltimore, Tuesday, February 3, 2015. It will be held at Evans Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services 16924 York Road, Monkton, Maryland 21111. The viewing will be held between 10:00am and 12:00pm and the service begins at 12:00pm and ends at 12:30pm. The burial will be the same day and will be at Druid Ridge Cemetery, 7900 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21208.
