James Kent Dias

June 21, 1946 — May 9, 2018

James Kent Dias died Wednesday, May 9, 2018. He was born June 21, 1946, in Florence, SC, the son of the late Melvin E. and Virginia Allford Dias and the twin of the late Robert K. Dias.

Jim was a graduate of the College of Charleston and a recipient of Master’s and Doctoral degrees from MUSC, where he spent most of his career on faculty before spending thirteen years with the Medical College of Georgia.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mimi Dias, and his sons, Nathan W. Dias and Aaron R. Dias, all of Charleston. Other survivors include his brother, Richard K. Dias of Pawley’s Island and his in-laws, Jane C. Dias, Julie B. Dias, Carol F. and Donald L. Fowler, William W. Fick, Sarah C. Fick, Jenness F. and Dacre C. Stoker, and Lucia F. Carroll, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The family will receive friends between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM, Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. All other services will be private.
