James Presley DeTreville, Sr., beloved husband of Ruth Alberta "Bertie" Kasell DeTreville for 64 years, he was born on April 14, 1921 in Columbia, SC to Richard Henry DeTreville and Hazel Glenn Jean DeTreville. He was raised in Camden, SC and graduated from Camden High School. He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II, including service in the India-Burma Theater for over two years. He was twice awarded the Silver Star for his gallantry in action. He was a member of the Society of Cincinnati. After the war, he became a civil servant and retired from the US Postal Service. He was married on June 30, 1946 to his wife, Bertie, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, James P. DeTreville, Jr. and his wife, Patricia O'Neill DeTreville, and by three grandchildren: James Michael DeTreville and his wife Rebecca Brown DeTreville; Lauren Elizabeth DeTreville; and Emilie Glenn DeTreville. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Isla Elizabeth DeTreville and Timothy Ellis DeTreville, as well as by two sisters-in-law, Patricia Igoe Kasell and Lee Kasell, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and by his siblings: Jean DeTreville Derrick, Julian DeTreville, Richard C. DeTreville, and George Lee DeTreville. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. James P. DeTreville, Sr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, Friday, April 1, 2011 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The burial will be held in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
