Jackie Hancock Salmonsen

July 4, 1932 — February 8, 2025

Jackie Hancock Salmonsen, 92, widow of Keith Salmonsen, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2025, in McCormick, SC. The relatives and friends of Jackie are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home (1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC). All are invited to visit with family at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at the Magnolia Cemetery (Green Hill section), at 70 Cunnington Avenue, Charleston, SC 29405.

Jackie was born on July 4th, 1932 in Lake City, SC. Her father was James Quincy Hancock and her mother was Cora Mae Hanniford Hancock. She was the oldest of three siblings. Her younger sister was Norma Jean Hancock Sorrow, who is deceased, and her younger brother is James Russel Hancock, who currently resides in Lawrenceville, GA.

After their mother died, Jackie and her siblings lived with relatives for a while and then moved to Epworth Children's Home in Columbia, SC. After living at Epworth, all siblings moved to the John de la Howe home for children in McCormick, SC, where they met Doris Smith, who became a surrogate sibling and lifelong friend. They lived at de la Howe until graduating high school.

Following High School Graduation, Jackie moved to Pawley's Island and worked at a local restaurant. Next, Jackie moved to downtown Charleston and stayed at the YWCA on Society Street where she met Keith Salmonsen where they met while walking down Society Street. They were married in 1952.

Jackie's first child, Keith Joseph Salmonsen, was born in 1953, but tragically died several years later. Charles Edward Salmonsen was also born that year. Three short years later, Kevin Joseph Salmonsen was born in March . Keith and Jackie had another boy, Keith Walter Salmonsen, again in March. Finally, in April of 1963, Susan Annette Doris Salmonsen, blessed the family and life was now complete for Keith and Jackie.

Jackie enjoyed bowling in leagues with Keith and a few of their friends and relatives in addition to dancing at the Cavalero Club. Jackie was also involved in Bridge and Investment Clubs.

Jackie has a sweet relationship with her son-in-law, Ted Verner. She was also a loving grandmother to Jackson, Joseph, Chase, Alisha, and Maddox, and Brice. Jackie was also a great sister to Russell (nephews Mark and Joel). She was also a great grandmother to Chase's daughter (Blakeleigh).

Jackie never met a stranger. She was always there to answer the bell. Jackie was always a sweet person, with a big beautiful smile and she cared about everyone. She was special. She was loved. She will be missed and remembered by all.
