Jack Audro Brown, Sr.

June 5, 1929 — October 31, 2018

On Wednesday, 31 October 2018, Jack Audro Brown, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grand father passed away in Charleston, SC at age 89.

The relatives and friends of Jack A. Brown, Sr., are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 12:00 PM Wednesday, 7 November 2018, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Jack was born on 5 June 1929, in Landville, West Virginia to James and Carrie Brown. He retired from the US Army as a CWO4 helicopter pilot after 23 years of service to our country – serving in both the Marine Corps and the Army. He later retired again from his own business as a licensed real estate appraiser. On 16, October 1953, he married Nancy Ann Albert in Malden, WV and together they raised one daughter, Virginia and two sons: Jack, Jr. and Mark.

Jack Brown had a far-ranging and fascinating life. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 17 and completed basic training at Parris Island in 1946. He went on to re-enlist in the Army and held enlisted ranks from PFC through SFC. He received a battlefield commission in the Korean War to 2nd LT and held commissioned officer ranks through Captain. He graduated helicopter flight school in 1955 and held ranks as a pilot of W1 up through Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CWO4) retiring in December 1969, at the highest WO rank available then. He was an artillery gunner, officer, and forward observer in the Korean War where he was wounded in combat and received his commission. As a helicopter pilot, he went on to fly air shows, serve as an instructor pilot, and as a test pilot flying and helping develop the first armed helicopters in the world. He was badly wounded in 1966 in Vietnam from a helicopter crash while flying the largest heavy lift helicopter operational in the world at that time. After retiring from the Army, he owned a real estate appraisal business as a SC licensed appraiser working mostly for the state, utility companies and mortgage banking companies. He retired to the mountains in the upstate of South Carolina with his beloved Nancy Ann. He loved God, loved his country, loved to hunt and fish and he loved his family.

Jack was preceded in death by his father and mother; his beloved wife, Nancy; his daughter, Virginia; his son, Jack, Jr., and his older brothers, Harry and Troy. He is survived by his son, Mark and his wife, Connie of James Island, SC ; his sister, Virginia and her husband, Don Peak of Parma, OH; four grand-children: Dawn, Lauren, Kathleen and Daniel; and several great-grand children, including Whitney and Kayla who were very close with their Bepa.
