J. Roy Gibson

December 8, 1940 — October 26, 2018

John Roy Gibson, Sr., husband of Frances Kendall Gibson, died peacefully on October 26, 2018, in Charleston, SC at the age of 77. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Roy Gibson, Sr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Park, Azalea Drive, N. Charleston. The family will receive friends between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM Monday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy., Charleston.

Roy was born on December 8, 1940, in Charleston, SC a son of Thomas Paul Gibson, Sr. and Pauline Felker Gibson. He graduated from North Charleston High School in 1958. Roy was very athletic and earned a track scholarship at The Citadel. He graduated from The Citadel in 1962 with a degree in business management. Roy married Frances Kendall Gibson in 1964 and the couple had three sons. He was a second generation owner and the president of Gibson Tire Service Inc., a successful commercial tire company. Roy cared and provided for his family and was an active and dedicated member of Grace United Methodist Church. With his competitive spirit, he enjoyed coaching Pee Wee football. He was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life. Roy was also a member and generous supporter of The Citadel Brigadier Club and The Rotary Club of Charleston.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Kendall Gibson and his three children, John R. Gibson, Jr. (Jane), David E. Gibson (Julie) and Jeff T. Gibson (Jennifer), all of Charleston; his three grandchildren: Kayla R. Chavis, Zachary T. Gibson and Samantha K. Gibson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Paul Gibson, Sr. and Pauline Felker Gibson and brother, Thomas Paul Gibson, Jr.
