J H Kinard

J H (Johnny) Kinard, 90, of Charleston, SC, loving husband of Katherine Jones Kinard, entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 13, 2017. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Kinard are invited to attend his Liturgy of the Word Service 10 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at the Mausoleum of Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. A native of Ehrhardt, SC, Johnny was born September 8, 1926, a son of the late Lula and Josiah Hallman Kinard. He attended schools in Ehrhardt, SC, was a WWII Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. In 1959, he founded the family business, Coastal Burglar Alarm Company, and guided its success into what is now its third generation. Johnny was an avid collector of antique automatic musical instruments and music boxes. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding player pianos and nickelodeons. He could also be found working on his various inventions. If it was mechanical, Johnny could fix it. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.Mr. Kinard is survived by his wife of sixty-five years; 3 Children: John H. Kinard (Miriam), Paul J. Kinard (Lynda), Sheila K. Read (Tom); seven Grandchildren: Brian Kinard, Laura Tregner, Elissa Hill, Thomas Read, Katherine Davis, Rebecca Read, and Andrew Kinard; five Great-grandchildren; one sister, Ellis DuBois, one brother, Brice M. Kinard, two nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by three sisters.We would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers provided by Comfort Keepers, Ellin our Case Manager, Naomi, Leather, Veronica, Lesley, Irene, Linda, and Anita. Also, a very special thank-you to Intrepid Hospice nurses Jennifer, Catherine, and Karen.
