Iwo George Chajewski

August 14, 1947 — March 4, 2017

Iwo George Chajewski, 69, husband of Lynn Ann Chajewski, of Charleston, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. George Chajewski are invited to his Celebration of Life from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston.  George was born in Slupsk, Poland, on August 14, 1947. He was a son of Edward Chajewski and Irena Danczyn Chajewska. He trained in culinary arts in Europe and acquired additional culinary techniques while travelling internationally. In 2008 he wrote a cookbook for head and neck cancer survivors. He had an interest in all history, particularly Civil War and World War II. His hobbies included photography, collecting shells and clocks. He truly enjoyed cooking for others. At age 62, he developed a passion for windsurfing. After moving to Charleston in 1993, he worked at Jasmine Porch on Kiawah Island, then at the Medical University of South Carolina for the next 20 years where he retired as the Chef of Catering this past August. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Ann; his children, Artur Chajewski (Kasia), Colleen Dieterly (Tom), Olga Chajewski and Michael Chajewski (Joey); his mother, Irena Chajewska; grandchildren: Lukasz, Hania and Julia Chajewski, John and Charles Dieterly; his brother, Krzysztof Chajewski; sisters- in- law, Mary Jo Hoskyns and Suzanne Peterson and brother- in- law, Louis Hoskyns (Courtney). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his father. The family would especially like to thank George’s caregivers at the Hollings Cancer Center and the Department of Otolaryngology for their excellent care and compassion over the years.
