Hugh Frank McGregor departed this life on Sept. 22, 2015. The Lord has taken him to rest with his loving departed. The relatives and friends of Hugh F. McGregor are invited to attend his Funeral Service 10:00 AM Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1393 Miles Drive, Charleston. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. The family will receive friends between 5:00 & 7:00 PM Friday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Born on Feb. 20, 1923, in Charleston, SC, Hugh was preceded in death by Mary McGregor, his wife of 67 years, and survived by his second wife of two years, Margaret McGregor. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1945, going to Murmansk, USSR, taking war supplies at the beginning of WWII, and went on to sail to ports such as Casablanca and Oran in N. Africa in Atlantic convoys. After the war, Hugh partnered with his brother John McGregor, to open McGregor Brothers Grocery Store, which operated at 519 Meeting St. for 17 years; he then launched McGregor's Building & Real Estate, a venture he led for 30 years. His passions as an artist and art collector led him to later found McGregor's Art Gallery. Hugh is survived by his three children from his first marriage: Hugh McGregor, Jr., M.D.; Mary Katherine McGregor Ouzts; Phyllis Jane McGregor Neasham; and grandchildren: Billy Jordan; Duncan, Bradley & Megan Neasham; and four great-grandchildren.
