Huger Sinkler, Jr., of Charleston, died April 13, 2011 in the presence of his loved ones. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Huger Sinkler, Jr., are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 16, 2011, at St. John's Parish Church on Maybank Hwy. John's Island. The family will receive friends this Friday evening between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home,1620 Savannah Highway. Huger was born in Charleston on February 26, 1932, to the late Huger and Alida Canfield Sinkler. He was a graguate of the Hill School in Pottstown, PA and the University of South Carolina. During his early years he farmed on Rosebank, the family plantation, and was awarded Farmer of the Year by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. He served as a Lt. in the U.S. Navy during the Berlin crisis and was honorably discharged in 1972. Huger sold real estate for the Max Hill Company, Seabrook Island and at Kiawah. He was a former member of the Carolina Yacht Club, Yeamans Hall Club, Sea Island Yacht Club, the South Carolina Agricultural Society and a past president of the St. Cecilia Society. He is survived by his wife, Frances Mobley Sinkler; three daughters: Frances S. Murphy, Alida S. Barnwell and Caroline C. Sinkler; his brother: G. Dana Sinkler; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Care for Life, Hospice of Charleston and Savannah House.
