Herbert Britten Durden, 94, of Charleston, widower of Eloise Berry Durden, died Monday, July 30, 2012. He was born in Metter, GA. on Tuesday, November 6, 1917, a son of Bennett and Maude Lanier Durden. Mr. Durden graduated from Metter High School and was the retired owner of Durden Watson Plumbing Co. He was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church and was ordained a Deacon in 1966. Mr. Durden taught Sunday School and served on numerous committees there. He enjoyed the church sponsored tours that he took with his wife and friends. Mr. Durden was an avid fisherman and won several trophies doing so. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, Christian music, cooking and gardening. Mr. Durden was predeceased by a son, William H. Durden and is survived by his three daughters: Carol D. Gaskins and her husband, Joseph, of Charleston; Lynette D. Koger and her husband, John, of Rocky Mount, NC and Susan D. Leigh of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The family will receive friends this Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 7:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. A PRIVATE graveside service will take place at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
