H. Michael Garvin, 66 of Round O, SC, retired Director of Colleton County Emergency Medical Services, died Monday, January 13, 2014 in Greenville, SC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 20, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenburg Blvd. Charleston, SC 29407. The Rite of Committal will follow at 1:00 PM at Smoak's Cemetery, Ruffin SC. The family will receive friends at the James. A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah HWY from 4:00 until 6:00 PM, Sunday, January 19, 2014. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Nashville, TN. Mr. Garvin was born August 11, 1947 in Charleston, SC, the son of the late Henry Fritz Garvin Jr., and Kathryn Matson Garvin. He was a 1965 graduate of Bishop England High School and served in the US Air Force, a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 147, James Island, SC, VFW, and DAV. He was a regional faculty member of the American Heart Association, a member of the Charleston Rifle Club, and the Pineland Sportsman Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and above all cooking at the American Legion. He was a loving father and grandfather and was loved dearly by his sister and brother. Surviving are his son Michael J. Garvin, daughter Kathryn Lee-Ann Garvin Smoak, one granddaughter, Kelly, and four grandsons, Bruce, Hallie, Josh, and Justin; one sister, Carolyn Garvin Berry and one brother, Perry A. Garvin.
