Helen Fogle Miller, 89, of Pinopolis, SC, formerly of Edgewater Park in Charleston, SC, widow of the late Raymond L. Miller, Sr., died on Monday, December 30, 2013, at a local hospital. The family will receive friends at James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407 on Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Helen was born on May 9, 1924, in Orangeburg County, SC, she was one of seven children of the late Thomas Jefferson Fogle and Mary Mahettie Livingston. Originally from Bamberg, SC she moved to Charleston during World War II and worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. There she met and married Raymond Sr. in August 1949. She was a homemaker, Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Scout Leader, school volunteer and caregiver to numerous family members over the years. Helen provided many home cooked meals to any who came into the home and was a second mom to her son'sclassmates at the Citadel. Survivors include a son, Raymond L. Miller, Jr. of West Ashley; a daughter, Lois M. Cain and her husband, Steve, of Pinopolis, SC.; three grandsons: Jeremy C. Cain and his wife, Rebecca, of Nashville, TN; Lucas M. Cain and Trevor S. Cain both of Pinopolis, SC. ; one surviving brother, Livingston Doyle Fogle of Brunswick, GA; six nieces and two nephews.
