Hedwig "Hedi" Powers

James Island, SC - Mrs. Hedi H. Powers, age 89 and wife of Michael James Powers passed away Wednesday, June 13, at her daughter's residence. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Michael James Powers are invited to attend the funeral service for the latter at 11:00 am Friday, June 15, 2012, from the chapel of the James A. McAlister Funeral Home. The Rite of Committal will follow the service at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Highway 61, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A native of Regensburg, Germany, Hedi was born November 3, 1922, a daughter of the late Franz and Katharina Holzapfel. She moved to the United States in 1956, and married Michael James Powers in 1957. A long-time employee of Condon's Department store, she retired after a long career working in the administrative office of the store. Mr. and Mrs. Powers were long-time members of the Church of the Nativity for many years, until declining health made attendance impossible. In addition to her husband, Hedi is survived by her son, Roman F. Powers and his wife Haig of Edisto Island, SC, and daughter Gloria Powers of Johns Island, SC. Mrs. Powers is also survived by her granddaughter, Katrina R. Powers, and her niece, Consuela Holzapfel. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Holzapfel.
