Harry L. Rumph - Charleston - Entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 29, 2011, Harry Legare Rumph, 84, the husband of Nathalie Sanders Rumph. Harry was born in Charleston on Thursday, October 21, 1926, a son of Harry and Bessie Lee Rumph. Harry served with the US Merchant Marines during and after WW II. He worked on the waterfront and in his family's garage. He retired from Westvaco after 30 years as a major equipment mechanic. Harry sang with the Sacred Heart and Nativity Church Choirs as well as the Charleston Choral Society for many years and performed in a number of theatrical stage plays. He loved to tinker, make birdhouses and tell jokes and stories. He was a long time member of Nativity Roman Catholic Church. Harry is survived by his wife of almost 64 years Nathalie (Betty) Sanders Rumph; four daughters: Cheryl & Harry Rollins, Darlene Joye, Brenda & Paul Kinard and Suzanne & Miles Bean, his son's widow, Theodora Hollifield, all of Charleston as well as 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two sisters: Virginia R.Hairfield and Ernestine R. James. He was predeceased by his son, Harry Legare Rumph III. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Rumph are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Nativity Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be at Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.
