Harriet Anne Fitch Fosberry, widow of Eugene (Gene) Frances Fosberry, Jr., passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024. Harriet's Graveside Funeral Service will be held 11:30 AM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island, with Reverend Susan Pennock officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service between 10:00 and 11:00 AM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston.
Harriet was born August 28, 1927, on the family farm near Lake City, SC, the youngest of three daughters of the late William (Bill) Duncan and Elizabeth (Bess) Crozier Fitch. She was predeceased by her sisters, Ellen Fitch Gore and Nina Fitch Early and her only child, Donald (Donnie) Eugene Fosberry.
Harriet graduated from Lake City High School in 1944 and followed her sisters to Florence to become a secretary. She met and married Gene, a Charleston native, on February 22, 1952. Their first home was in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, while Gene was stationed at Fort Knox. After serving in the Army, they made James Island their home.
Harriet was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where for many years she served as a Monday Counter. She loved visiting her family, entertaining friends and going to the beach.
Survivors include her nieces, Rebecca Sowell (Pat) of Florence, SC, Ginger Clark (Mike) of Leesville, SC, Susan Early (Marc Landry) of Lafayette, CO and Bonnie Winston of Sumter, SC, as well as a number of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews.
