Gwendolyn Harvey Smith

Gwendolyn Harvey Smith, 92, of Charleston, SC, widow of Vernon Smith, Sr., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 22, 2016. The relatives and friends of Gwendolyn Harvey Smith are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 25, 2016 in the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy., Charleston. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.She was born December 29, 1924 in Miley, SC, the daughter of Charles Alla and Agnes Cook Harvey. She was a life member of James Island Baptist Church and retired from Johnson and Johnson Insurance Brokers after many years of faithful service. Gwendolyn and her late husband, Vernon, were married on June 7, 1941.Gwendolyn is survived by two sons: Vernon Smith, Jr. (Kathy) and Michael Wayne Smith, Sr. (Eleanor); five grandchildren: Emily Smith Dunakey (Patrick), Cynthia Smith Hester (Billy), Michael Wayne Smith, Jr., Lauren Smith Gehlken (Trey), Caroline Smith Richards (Steve) and Natalie C. Smith; seven great grandchildren: Daphne Laine Dunakey, Ferris Patrick Dunakey, Fitz Patrick Dunakey, Andrew Watts White, Alexander Michael Smith, Sydney Rux Smith and Melissa Ann Gehlken; a daughter-in-law, Ann Maloney Smith; four sisters, Barbara H. McMillan, Betty H. Thomas, Jeanne H. Bishop (Jon Earl) and Jacqueline H. Livingston. She was predeceased by her son, Marion Harvey Smith and her granddaughter, Melissa Ann Smith.The family would like thank Gwendolyn's caregivers, Norma Moore, Angela Simms, Keesha Manigault and Jocelyne Dzonang.Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt.
