Grady R. Williams

Graydon R. Williams, widower of Mary Kanapaux Williams, and retired owner and president of Grady Williams Plumbing, Inc. passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Hospice of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant. Grady was born January 18, 1933 in Shinhopple, NY, the son of Lloyd H. Williams and Isabelle Eckert Williams. He was educated in the public schools of New York and attended Cortland State University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served aboard minecraft in the Korean Conflict. Grady was an avid sports fan who spent many years coaching teams at the James Island YMCA and supporting youth sports on James Island. He loved hunting and fishing and, with his crew, won many sport fishing tournaments on the "Plumb Krazy." Grady was a member of the Charleston Master Plumbers Assn., Local 470 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 147, VFW Post 445, Bluefield Hunt Club, and was a Life Member of the SC Sportfishing Association. Grady is survived by his three sons: John L. Williams (Sharon), Michael F. Williams (Allison), and Gerald P. Williams, all of Charleston; one sister Ellen W. Tompkins (Skip) of Downsville, New York; brother-in-law William J. Kanapaux (Martha) of Charleston, sister-in-law Catherine K. Cathcart of Altamonte Springs, Florida, sister-in-law Joyce Williams of Downsville, New York; five grandchildren: Jennifer Hudson , Mary Frances Williams-Perkins (Shane), Michael Collins, Elizabeth Williams, and Graydon Williams; three great-grandchildren: Edward Hudson, Sarah Hudson and Heidi Jean Perkins; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Mary Kanapaux Williams and his brother Stuart Williams.
