Gertrude Lillith Von Glahn Kennedy, 95, widow of Thomas W. Kennedy, Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Gertrude V. Kennedy are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Wednesday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Gertrude was born December 19, 1921, in Charleston, to Louis William and Louise Milligan Von Glahn. She graduated from Memminger Elementary and Murray Vocational High School, and was married to the late Thomas W. Kennedy, Sr. for 54 years prior to his passing on May 19, 1995. Gertrude was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of the Pilot Club of Charleston. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother and grandmother who filled her home with love and laughter and always had a delicious meal ready on the table. She was loved dearly by all and will be greatly missed.She is survived by four children: Thomas W. Kennedy, Jr. (Renee), Michael B. Kennedy (Debbie), Rosemary K. Cochran (Jim), and Gerald F. Kennedy; ten grandchildren: Tommy, Tammy, Natalie, Robert, Laurie, Heather, Danielle, Michael, Haley, and Corey and 6 great-grandchildren. Gertrude was predeceased by her son, Ronald L. Kennedy and her daughter, Barbara K. Netting.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Dr., Charleston, SC 29407.
