Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening between 6:00 & 8:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home. She was born in Charleston, SC on June 16, 1926 to the late William R. and Eileen H. Clair. She graduated from Bishop England High School. She married the late Edward Henry Heuer, Jr. on September 4, 1948. The two were dedicated to one another for over 55 years, until his death. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and found peace in her devotion to its Perpetual Adoration Program. She found joy in the large family she created and was its center and soul. Throughout her life she guided her 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren by teaching them to love and appreciate one another. She could often be found in the kitchen with her grandchildren baking cookies and playing games. She inspired and passed down many Godly and family values. By devoting her life and home to others she provided a heritage of love and family. Gertrude is survived by her adoring children Gertrude H. (Trudie) Ford, Edward H. (Buddy) Heuer, III, Deborah C. Heuer, Robert P. Heuer, Patrick J. Heuer and Jacquelyn H. Evans in addition to her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will miss her dearly and remember her as the spirited, well-read and intelligent woman she was.
