George Florian Smolinski, 85, of Mount Pleasant, SC, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 07, 2017. The relatives and friends of George F. Smolinski are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Monday, March 13, 2017, at Christ Our King Catholic Church, Russell Street, Mt. Pleasant. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 60 Huguenin Ave., Charleston. A native of Dayton, Ohio, George was a son of the late Peter and Lillian Smolinski. He graduated from Chaminade High School in Dayton, and continued his higher education at the University of Dayton, Miami of Ohio University, and received his Master's Degree from Ohio State. Mr. Smolinski taught History and Geography in the Dayton and Kettering Public Schools, retiring after 30 years. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. George loved animals, opera and classical music (especially Mozart), and was definitely a 'history buff', able to discuss in great detail many historical subjects and events. George loved gourmet cooking, always ready to do the shopping and supervise preparation of the meal. He enjoyed travel, and made many trips cross country during his youth. Known by his family as a 'gentle giant' because of his tall stature, he was loved by all who knew him.George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anne P. Smolinski; 2 children: Tom Smolinski and wife Maria, Paula Walmet and husband Eric; 3 grandchildren, Lauren Smolinski, Rachel and Luke Walmet; and a host of extended family and friends.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Cooper Meals on Wheels, 2304 N.
