LODGE, GEORGE W.C. Entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 19, 2010 George William Cabot Lodge, widower of Edna Elizabeth Frankenberger Lodge, of Mt. Pleasant, SC The relatives and friends of George W.C. Lodge are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Christ Our King Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. The Rite of Committal will be in Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore, MD at a later date. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Tuesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. and the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM Mr. Lodge was born in Philadelphia, PA, a son of George Richard Cabot and Gertrude Elizabeth Bradley Lodge on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1915. He was a graduate of Camden High School and attended John Hopkins University. Mr. Lodge moved from NJ to MD in 1939 where he met his future wife and was employed until 1947 as an aeronautical engineer by the Glenn A. Martin Co. (Lockheed-Martin). He was later employed by Black & Decker and AAI Corp., before retiring to care for his ill wife of 49 years. As a founding parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Baltimore, he attended the first Mass celebrated in December 1949. There he held various offices in many parish organizations including the Holy Name Society, as Head Usher and a "Monday Money Counter." He was also instrumental in establishing the Baltimore County Auxiliary Police in the 1950's, an organization that provided volunteer support to the Police Dept. including traffic patrols, parades, and search/rescue missions after disasters. During his career, he worked on the B-26 Marauder, PBM Mariner patrol bomber, JRM-Mars, XB48, and the Redstone rocket, which launched America's first satellite and astronaut (Alan Shepard) into space. After moving to Charleston, Mr. Lodge devoted himself to life at Sandpiper Village in Mt. Pleasant and volunteered two afternoons weekly at Patriot's Point aboard the USS Yorktown greeting visitors from around the world. An inveterate collector of things large and small, he surrounded himself with books, crossword puzzles and maps. Surviving are his daughter, Diane Elizabeth Lodge Knott and her husband John L. Knott, Jr.; three grandchildren, Melissa Cabot Knott and her husband, William Ray of Denver, CO,, John Leo Knott III and his wife, Megan of Havertown, PA, and Sarah Aden Knott of Key West, FL; six Great- Grandchildren, Aden Cooper Ray, Liam Mercer Ray, Marin Reed Ray, Olivia Ann Knott, John Leo Knott IV and Brady Nolan Knott. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Edward Lodge. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Patriot's Point Naval Museum, 40 Patriot's Point Rd/. Mt.
