Entered into eternal rest on June 10, 2009, Mr. George Washington Aimar, Jr. the widower of Eleanor Viele Aimar, of James Island, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. George W. Aimar, Jr. are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home 1620 Savannah Hwy. this Friday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. George Aimar was born in Charleston on October 27, 1936, a son of Thelma Bellamy and George Washington Aimar. He attended local schools, graduated from Bishop England High School and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. George was a past Commodore of the Charleston Yacht Club, the International Order of the Blue Gavel, the American Legion,Post 147, V.F.W. Post 445 and was a founding member of the S.C.S.S.A. His passion was offshore fishing and the Lowcountry outdoors. He was the former owner of 7 Star Liquors and formerly worked for Eckerd's Drug Stores for many years He is survived by his three sons, George W. Aimar III and his wife, Cherie, Charles B. Aimar and his wife, Maryanne and Paul E. Aimar and his wife, Candy; his grandchildren as well as three sisters, Pamela A. Ohlandt, Adrienne Aimar and Caroline Aimar McQueeney. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to S.C. Memorial Reef.org
