Gary E. Dempsey

Gary Edward Dempsey, 69, of Charleston, the husband of Barbara Jeanne Dempsey, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Gary was born in Harco, IL on Sunday, November 17, 1940, a son of Garland Edward and Kathleen Dooley Dempsey. He was a ship fitter at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and also worked for Caterpillar and Metal Trades. Gary enjoyed woodworking, ceramics, fishing, and growing Cacti and Succulents in his greenhouse. Gary is survived by his wife, Barbara Jeanne Dempsey; his children: Terry Lynn Dempsey, Sherry Lynn Dempsey and Tracy Dempsey Gilbert and her husband, Don; his grandchildren: Edward and his wife, Elizabeth, Alex, Tony, Moira, Rachel and Brianna; his mother: Kathleen and his sisters: Donna and Debra. He was predeceased by his father and a sister, Sue. The family will receive friends this Saturday evening between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
