Frances Huffstetler

May 10, 2028 — May 2, 2012

Frances Scharloock Huffstetler, age 84, died peacefully in her Hollywood, SC home on May 2, 2011. Frances was born in Charleston, SC to the late Bernice Keenan Scharloock and Theodore Scharloock, Jr. on May 10, 1928. She was predeceased by her brother, Theodore "Teddy" Scharloock, III and her husband of 62 years, Dwight "Jack" Huffstetler. She retired as a Computer Programmer Analyst from the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1989 with 25 years service and saw computers shrink from room-size to palm-size. Frances was educated at St. Angela Academy in Aiken, SC where her abundant generosity of spirit was first nourished. She was an active parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church on Yonges Island and a member of its Altar Society. A talented seamstress, Frances handmade many of the church's altar linens. She also proudly served Bishop England High School's Band and Band Boosters for numerous years as its Secretary. Among her greatest joys and honors was to have been selected to serve as a parish representative to the historic Synod of the Diocese of Charleston from 1990 to 1995. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose love had no bounds. She cherished family gatherings where her lively spirit and infectious laugh filled the room, yet she was happiest when dancing in the arms of Jack, her soulmate for 62 years. Frances was the embodiment of elegance, generosity, service and love. Her striking physical beauty was only exceeded by the radiance of her rare, beautiful and glorious inner spirit. Frances is survived by two daughters, Patricia H. Wolters, of Mt. Pleasant and Donna Logerot of Charleston and a son, Dwight D. Huffstetler, Jr. of Hollywood, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Charleston, 1662 Ingram Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
