Forest Elwood McKenzie, 81, widower of Jean O'Rourke McKenzie, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 19, 2018. The relatives and friends of Forest E. McKenzie are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends this Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home.
Forest was born in Loris, SC on December 3, 1936, a son of John Forest McKenzie and Katie Futrell McKenzie. He served proudly in the United States Navy before moving to Charleston where he worked for SCE&G for over 30 years. It was there that he met his wife, Jean O’Rourke McKenzie and were married for 43 years before her passing in 2005. In his free time he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a long time member of Tea Farm, John Hardee and North Carolina Hunting Clubs. Forest was an incredibly talented craftsman who could build or repair just about anything. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Forest was predeceased by his wife, Jean O’Rourke McKenzie; his son, David Parrish McKenzie; a brother, Clayton McKenzie and a sister, Ruby Causey. He is survived his son, John Forest McKenzie II, and his wife, Melissa; his daughter, Robin Suzanne McKenzie; his granddaughter, Elizabeth J. McKenzie; his sister, Mildred Mew and her husband, Tommy; and brothers Willis ‘Toby’ McKenzie and his wife, Bonnie; Gary McKenzie and Douglas ‘Scottie’ McKenzie along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
