Evelyn Ruth Schraibman

March 23, 2025 — January 10, 2013

Evelyn Ruth Herndon Schraibman, 87, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2013. She was born March 23, 1925 in Walterboro, SC to Charles H. and Lula B. Herndon. She married Carl Schraibman and moved to Charleston, where she had 2 sons and was married for 39 years. Evelyn and Carl loved to dance and listen to music, especially Lawrence Welk. Carl preceded her death in 1989. She is survived by her two sons, Danny of Charleston, SC and Wayne (wife Paige) of DeBary, FL. Mrs. Schraibman is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Eric Carl Schraibman, Raleigh, NC and Martha Blair Vrbensky (husband Jason), Orlando, FL, and 1 great-grandson (William Carl Vrbensky). Mom or Big Granny as she was called by her family loved her church (Trinity United Methodist), her sons and family, her numerous friends and her enthusiasm for going to the Elks Club, not to mention shopping. She never met a stranger and wherever she went, her smile, kindness and enthusiasm made new friends whether at the grocery store, in the mall, at Wal-Mart or on a plane. Strengthened by faith, she led by example, facing every challenge with a positive attitude and giving of herself to others. Her family legacy is, "When life gives you a lemon, make lemonade". Rest in peace Mom/Big Granny, you will be in our thoughts everyday. The relatives and friends of Evelyn Ruth Herndon Schraibman are invited to attend a graveside celebration of her life 11:00 AM Saturday, January 12, 2013 from Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery, Azalea Drive, North Charleston.
