Eva Dorcas Koors, 83, formerly of Phoenix, AZ, died Saturday, September 20, 2014 at her home in Charleston,SC. Eva was born January 2, 1931 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Peter and Henrietta Mae Tavener. In 1957, at the age of 26, she took the bold step of moving to "The States" and settled in Phoenix, AZ, becoming a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1964. Eva married William Bernard Koors in September of 1960 and worked for Sperry Flight Systems (now Honeywell) for 32 years before retiring in 1989 as a Methods Engineering Aide. After the death of her husband Bill in 2002, Eva moved to Ann Arbor, MI to live with her daughter Colleen's family, eventually moving with them to Charleston, SC in 2008. She was a parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Phoenix, AZ for many years, was a former member of Nativity Catholic Church in Charleston and was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Charleston at the time of her death. She greatly enjoyed the companionship of her fellow members of the Nativity Leisure Club and The Friends of St. Theresa. Survivors include her step-daughter Karen Koors of Arizona City, AZ and daughter Colleen (Andrew) Lamar of Charleston, SC; grandchildren Rob (Marcie) Trantham of Amarillo, TX, Riann (Michael) Lopez of Casa Grande, AZ, Christopher (Jenny) Trantham of Scottsdale, AZ, and Eva, Samuel, and William Lamar of Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren Jessica Garcia, Valarie, Stefanie and Joeseph Trantham, and Michael Lopez; sister Hilda Tavener of Brampton, Ontario, Canada and brother Bruce (Maureen) Tavener of Lakefield, Ontario, Canada; friend Ellen Kunkle who generously offered the gift of friendship to a "tired old lady," dragging Eva out on the town, much to Eva's enjoyment and benefit; and finally her beloved cat Willie, who remained reliably at her side, even in death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Koors, a step-son, Stephen Koors, her sisters, Alice Murray and Blanche Tavener and a brother, Bill Tavener. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 134 St. Philip St., Charleston SC at 3:00 PM. Wednesday, September 24, 2014. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church. The Rite of Committal will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg, IN. She will be laid to rest next to her husband William.
