Eugene "Gene" C. Woodall, Jr., 58 of James Island, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 16, 2011. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 16, 1953, the son of Eugene C. Woodall and Willie Mae Stringer. Gene retired as Battalion Chief with the James Island Fire Department and was awarded the Medal of Valor in 1993 for his services. He was also a Commissioner with James Island PSD. He was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and a member of the Elks Club. Gene was a family man with a huge heart and was always asking everyone how he could help them. He married the love of his life, Dianne Ulichnie, 38 years ago at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church on Folly Beach and they have been on their honeymoon ever since. Gene is also survived by his sisters, Betty L McCrory, Deborah C. Suggs, Genia L. Orbach, and Candice C. Walsh; his three sons and best friends, Eugene C. Woodall, III and wife Holly, Robert M. Woodall and wife Catherine, and Joseph A. Woodall and wife Shannon; his sweet grandchildren Payton, Walker, Lola, Dalton, and Isabelle. The relatives and friends of Eugene C. Woodall, Jr. are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00PM, Tuesday June 21, 2011 at the Church of the Nativity on Folly Road, James Island. The family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00PM and 8:00PM, Monday June 20, 2011 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM. The Rite of Committal will be private. Family and friends that would like to participate in the procession to the Church on Tuesday, are asked to be at the funeral home by 1:00PM. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
