Eugene Michael Irwin, 84, of Charleston, the husband of Dero DeLoach Irwin, entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 10, 2011. Mr. Irwin was born in Charleston on August 11, 1926, the son of the late John Jackson and Lillian Hunakler Irwin. A graduate of Murray Vocational High School, he served in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon discharge from the service, he worked for the United States Postal Service. He achieved the position of Postal Supervisor of the James Island and St. Andrews Branches. He retired after thirty-one years, and was active in the Postal Union and worked for the Voters Registration Board for several years and was active in Republican politics. He was a charter member of Nativity Catholic Church. Mr. Irwin was predeceased by his children, Eugene Michael Irwin and Rebecca Irwin Green, and his brothers, John J. Irwin , George E. Irwin. Surviving is his wife of sixty-two years, Dero and grandchildren, Denise (Brian) Watson, and Russell (Emily) Adamson; great grandchildren, Angel, Micheal, William, Rebecca and Katie Watson and Hayden Adamson ; Sisters, Lillie Crouch , Shirley Hanlow, Delores Wrenn, Frances Blanchard Fry, Charlotte( Ronald) Hanna and Beaulah Irwin and sixty nieces and nephews. A debt of gratitude is owed to Dr. Austin Ball and Dr. William Maguire for their excellent care. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene M. Irwin are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Nativity Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will be in Steep Bottom Baptist Churchyard, Estill, SC. The family will receive friends this evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the James A.
